Brian Sutphin received an Associate in Applied Science degree in Civil Engineering Technology from Wytheville Community College. While studying to become a civil engineer, he realized he wanted to do more diversified work, including outdoor work, than Civil Engineering required. Knowing that his Civil Engineering knowledge would be an excellent complement to a surveying career, Brian obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Surveying and Mapping Science from East Tennessee State University.
Tamara Sutphin received an Associate in Applied Science degree in Civil Engineering Technology. They both spent the next eleven years gaining expertise in their chosen fields. During this time they became increasingly aware of what they would do differently and what kind of a company they would have if they ran a surveying and mapping company. So in 2006, they formed Blue Ridge Surveying & Mapping, Inc. and set out to make their own way. Today, Tamara oversees the CADD work while Brian focuses on the specialty field of GPS surveying. Together they personally handle all customer service related duties. As business has grown they have grown the company by carefully selecting experienced, qualified personnel and now employ two full-time field crews and a business manager. The combination of diversified experience, with each member of the Blue Ridge Surveying team contributing, produces a well rounded company offering quality results in every area of the field.
Their commitment to excellence includes not only the personnel of their company, but the equipment they use as well. They have equipped their company with cutting edge technology in the field and the office and maintain up to date skills in all related software applications.
